LECTURE TAKEAWAYS:

  • Antibody-mediated rejection in the kidney allograft is the most important cause of premature kidney allograft loss.
  • Analysis and utilization of patient-specific tissue and fluid samples leads to unique insights into disease and may pave the way to precision medicine.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration has enabled us to build and test new models for disease.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Ana Konvalinka is a clinician scientist and transplant nephrologist at the University Health Network in Toronto.

Dr. Konvalinka’s research focuses primarily on antibody-mediated rejection and kidney allograft fibrosis. She utilizes systems biology approaches and proteomics to enhance the understanding of the mechanisms, derive novel markers and to repurpose drugs for treatment of kidney disease.

Dr. Konvalinka’s lecture “New Methods and Models to Study Kidney Allograft Rejection” will discuss how cross-discipline collaboration has enabled researchers to build and test new models for disease, paving the way to precision medicine.
